A charismatic leader is able to draw in the masses and influence the behavior and thoughts of their followers. Charisma alone cannot win over the hearts of people; a charismatic leader must be proactive. A true leader must take initiative in their lives by realizing their decisions. A leader’s decisions must be parallel to their life’s principles and values. Nouwen states that real future leaders in Christ must set their standard in Christ by having theological reflection. Without this time of reflection the leaders will just turn into “pseudo-sociologists, pseudo-psychologists, pseudo-sociologists” He goes on by saying a leader must think of themselves as a facilitator, an active roll model, and a paternal or maternal figure. A successful leader will take responsibility for their actions. Responsibility can also be explained as “response-ability” meaning that leaders have the ability to choose how they respond. A proactive leader will not make excuses for their actions. A proactive leader will make the extra effort to motivate his followers and appeal to their nobler motives. Example phrases like, “because I know you’re an honest person” shows an appeal that is both disarming and enabling to a leaders subordinates. An encouraged and inspired person is more likely to provide better results than someone who is constantly degraded and belittled. This idea of inspiration
